Merry Christmas

In the spirit of Christmas and seeing as it is Audrey's first, I felt i had to make her a Christmas Stocking. The photo's aren't too crash hot but you get the idea. All made from found objects and recycled fabrics which I was happy about!
Hope everyone has a safe and happy Christmas.

Waiting at the Alter

Well the Groom is ready and waiting for his big day. The bride should be along shortly, she just needs some legs to walk up the aisle. Playing around with a couple of shots here for potential invitation images. Plenty to do and running out of time!

Inspiration - Maurice Denis

The Muses (Les muses) 1893
When we were in Canberra recently we went to the Masterpieces from paris exhibition which was awesome. I have finally seen some of Van Gogh's paintings in real life and they are amazing - the texture and intensity of colours was fantastic. However the highlight for me was discovering Maurice Denis who's paintings feature in this blog. I just loved his work, beautiful colour pallete and art noveau lines. Have to find out more on him!

Season's Greetings

Well I've been on a bit of a blogging hiatus due to being away for a couple of weeks and crazy christmas time. We attempted the huge drive from Melbourne to Sydney over 2 days with a young baby who was not impressed. She hates going in the car seat now even for a short time!

I didn't realise if you miss your daily blog reading for a week (and you start to follow a million blogs) then you end up spending hours trying to catch up - not wanting to do a bulk delete incase you miss out on that special post with some great inspiration or info. What I do realise now is that I am addicted!

Plenty of making, ideas and inspiration going on here which I will post soon. The above image is of a snowman decoration I bought Audrey as her first cool X-mas decoration to collect. It reminds me a little of Tim Burton.

What have you been making?

Playing along with Meet Me at Mikes - What have you been making? Have been ploughing away at trying to make the bride and groom toppers for our wedding cake and it is doing my freaken head in. I can't seem to get the veil working right - she looks more like a nun bride at the moment.

Also trying to make a cat for the softie for Mirabel Charity for Meet Me at Mikes. It's better then the first attempt but still has a ways to go - it's my interpretation of a cat! Was initially trying to do green cat eyes but opted for the much more super friendly brown eyes.

Ode to Hundertwasser

Hundertwasser is one of my favourite artists of all time - i just love his work and i wanted to share him with you. I finally hung up a painting one of my best friends (Andrew Battye - awesome painter with Uber Gallery Melbourne) painted for me inspired by him which you can see below. You should check out both of their websites (although their work is not similar at all!)

Cake Toppers

A little update on the Groom I am making for the top of our wedding cake for next year, also a sneak peak at the bride and some of the fabrics I want to use. I have temporarily used Pollo's eyes till I make some better ones for the groom as the last pair were way too big. If all else fails with these birds I found a pair of cute robots I could use!

This has made my year

Very exciting news in the Thursday Age newspaper - Tim Burton's exhibition from the MOMA in New York is coming to ACMI, Melbourne next year and it looks like burton, Helena and Depp will be coming out for the opening - hell yeah.
You can click on the image to read the article. I think I will be spending alot of time here!

Places I wish I could be

(image source via the Toothless Cat)

Paul Romano recently had an exhibition at the Toothless Cat a gallery in Philadelphia and it would have been so cool to go check it out. Someone should bring his work out to Australia for an exhibition. The above artwork was done for the front cover of Mastodon's album Leviathan (one of my favourite bands - coming out in January!! woohoo) which I think is some of his best work.

Groom to be

Below is a sketch of the groom I am making for the top of our wedding cake with some eyes that I made. I think they might be a little bit big but will keep going and then see at the end. Then below that is the start of the actual work. I think it is coming along nicely! I am planning to use the bride and groom that I make in a photo shoot for the front of the invitations so stay tuned for that also! It's nice to finally have some warm weather in Melbourne - bring on summer (just not 46 degree's like last year).

More Works to Folio

Hope everyone had a good weekend! - have uploaded more images onto my portfolio, I don't have close ups of these works yet so there is alot of detail you miss in these shots. Will hopefully get some done soon. Have also included 2 shots of the works hung in a gallery space.

She had legs that just wouldn't quit

I contemplated for a moment giving bonnie long legs but have since changed my mind. It is taking me a while to finish her as its hard to find any spare time at the moment.

On another note and the reason for this post is I want to giveaway - thats right GIVEAWAY this Canon printer cartridges and postcard set. I bought it to use the postcards but alas i think they only work with the canon printer as they did not work with my HP printer. It's been hanging around my house for ages and I just want to move it to somewhere where it will be used. The details are: Canon KP-361Px 3 (none opened), Post Card Size 100 x 148mm, 108 sheets (minus 2). You can have it for free I would only ask if you would pay for the postage and that's it!

On a cool art note - my mum forwarded me this email with artwork made from tyres - how cool is this! Unfortunately I don't have the source to quote it only an email forward so if anyone knows please let me know so I can credit them.

Neck Decorations Exhibition

Below is one of the scarves that I designed for the Neck Decorations exhibition organised by my friend Belinda who works for Craft Australia. All proceeds go to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and all scarves are donated by artists and designers in Australia. So if you happen to be in Canberra on the 19th or 20th of September please stop by and maybe even buy a scarf to help support the cause.

This scarf is from my series 'Scarves from Outer Space' which I am yet to upload on my portfolio. As the name implies I was inspired by those classic 1950's Scifi movies with gorgeous girls being attacked by weird monsters! The scarves were all made from recycled jumpers from savers. I also did a little illustration with each scarf and had grand plans to take it further but is on the pile of to-do's with a whole heap of other ideas.

Dollshouse Update

Well I have finally gotten around to staining the exterior of the dollshouse I am building Audrey. I decided to go with a more rustic exterior cause the interior is going to be pretty bright and colourful!

The next step now is interior decoration, wallpaper, curtains, cushions, furniture, paintings for the walls. I am half thinking of a project where maybe people could make little contributions to help make a funky, arty house - designing on a small scale - what do you think - you could make a rug, or a painting for the wall or even a lampshade?!
Otherwise I will be sifting through etsy and ebay for vintage pieces - ooh I can't wait to start if only I could afford to do this to my real home!
P.S: I'm addicted to this show called The Wire - HBO series.

HeartFELT

One thing i have been working on lately was a design for Gem from Candy Bandit for her new project HeartFELT. Gem makes handmade felt brooches, hanging mobiles & headbands. Here is a link to her last project where she organised for artists and illustrators to design a brooch (no theme) and the results were awesome.

The above image was my first design for HeartFELT (HeartFELT being the theme interpreted as you wanted) but thought it would be too complicated to translate into a brooch so I did another but can't show it as it is all part of the surprise of her project! Can't wait to see the results of this brooch project!

Exhibitions, Weddings, Folio Work and Misc Whooha

I have had the best week having my parents down cleaning up my house, doing my washing, babysitting so we can go see Ponyo (the new miyazaki film) and generally giving me a big break while they hung out with their little grandaughter!

Have been to the Dali exhibition at the NGV which was awesome, plenty of inspiration but the exhibition was huge so have to go back and have another look. My favourite parts were the animation with Disney and a set for hitchcock he designed (oh and also the metal beating heart at the end!).
I have loaded some more work into my portfolio on flickr, part of the Dream Series again based on some drunken nights out with my friends at uni. I really liked the shadows of the girl dancing into the scene, depending on how you moved the light it made her look like she was moving. Have been working on a few other projects (including the wedding!) but will have to fill you in later!
