Birds of Paradise - Inspiration

This is some early inspiration for my new range 'Birds of Paradise' which are going to be bird sculptures from machine embroidary, collage and beading. I'm planning for them to be very exotic and unusual. Just need to find the time to get started!

Owl in Progress

Have still been sorting out my work room and discovered this owl I was given by my friends for a housewarming gift from the last place I was in. It had broken in the mail so never got round to painting it till finally tonight I have started it. The pack came with bronze, gold, black and a range of iridescent colours - was a bit hard working with a limited pallete so am trying to stylise it.
Not sure where to go with it now so am going to have a break for a day and see if I have any new ideas.!

My New Addiction

I now have a new addiction which involves me surfing an online fabric store for hours looking at all the fabrics. I discovered this place Kelani Fabrics the other day and have spent so much time going through each section to decide which fabrics I want to order. It stocks contemporary textile designers from Australia and abroad - the only problem is that I wish they had a shop front i could go to see the fabrics - but maybe thats a good thing they don't for my bank balance!

Pack O Fun!

Well I received my awesome Swapalooza package in the mail Tuesday from Kate. It was so much fun to get the mysterious package, and then to open it and find all these goodies inside! I especially loved the handmade journal as I am a fanatical list writer (very intuitive Kate!). Also inside was a hand carved owl stamp from a eraser, a variety of antique laces, a craft magazine from 1969 and 2 mix cd's (one for audrey - another weird intuition of Kate's is that she had made a cover for the album called the little red caboose and we call audrey the little red papoose!) Here are some pictures of the stash.

Where the Hell Does all Your Time Go?

This is little Audrey and well yes she does look extemely cute - but where the hell does all your time go in the day looking after a baby?! I can even hear her stirring now as I type this entry - it's like she knows I want to do something!!

Ah well - what i've been meaning to post is that I received my swapapalooza gift in the mail from Kate and it was awesome! I haven't yet had a chance to photograph it to put it up on the blog but stay tuned. It was so much fun receiving something in the mail like that! Great idea Georgie Love.

The Creative haven

I have started another blog for The Creative Haven which is the production company my partner Andy and I go under to make our animations. Since we are trying to enter a few film competitions I thought it would be good to have a specific website where people could go and view the films development from conception including sketches, early animation tests, film stills and news about the animation.

Paul Romano

I love the work of Paul Romano who is the artist responsible for the awesome Mastodon album covers. He incorporates beautiful elements of design with his imagery that I could imagine screen printed. The band Mastodon produce concept albums with mythical themes and Paul Romano's work captures the imagery their songs evoke - so creative!

Amelie and Atticus

My friend Thouraya has started her own line of beautiful children's clothes and I love them so I am doing a bit of promoting for her! You can check them out at Amelie and Atticus on Etsy but here is an image of her work.

I've signed up for the Swapapalooza at Georgie Love which I am very excited about - luckily I got in at the last minute so looking forward to making a mix cd and sending crafty goods to my person!

I was thinking today how much I love making inspiration walls to help get me motivated. Above is a picture of my wall at the moment and my very messy desk. I also love to see other people's inspiration walls as they show the direction of where their work is coming from.

If anyone is interested in sending me or putting up on their own blog their inspiration walls that would be great!
